Charming Cape Cod Backyard Wedding

What do you do when your original wedding plan and subsequent back up plan fall through? You go to “plan C” and create a beautiful backyard wedding—in six weeks. Pulling off a wedding with a quick turnaround is no easy feat, but Pamela D’Orsi of PDR Events & New England Invitations and her team of talented vendors did just that!

Upon realizing their original wedding plan (or their back up plan) would not work out, couple E & M decided to host their big day at a family summer home on Cape Cod. Having already planned E’s two sisters’ weddings, and with the bride and mother-of-the-bride both nurses at hospitals battling the COVID-19 pandemic, D’Orsi was a natural choice for the job. The couple’s trust in D’Orsi’s style and decision making was imperative in creating their dream day. “Working with a client that has become like family makes it all that special to knock it out of the park,” says D’Orsi.

A lot went on behind-the-scenes to make this magical day come to life: site visits, Facetime walk-throughs, choosing linens, chairs and tabletop décor, as well as coordinating transportation for guests as parking was not available at the house (all reasons to hire a seasoned wedding planner!). “This wedding was changed three times,” says D’Orsi. “The best advice I can give to a couple getting married during this time is to be flexible and be able to ‘roll’ with the twists and turns of the changes during the planning process. You have to have an open mind and know the real reason you are having this day…to marry the one you love.”

Though the couple was forced to scale back their bash, the details were plentiful. Hosted beneath a century-style tent, the event featured a neutral color palette (the bride opted for Ibiza White and Tweed Natural linens and White Napa Chairs), with pops of orange, peach and blush by way of Fenton Amber Goblets as well as lush floral arrangements designed by Fig & Squill Floral Designs featuring summery blooms like dahlias, garden roses, and even wild raspberries. “This was the third re-style for Fig & Squill,” says D’Orsi. “And as you can see by the photos, the color palette stole the show.” Gilded table décor like Arezzo Gold Flatware and Cheerful with Gold Rim Chargers added a layer of sophistication to each place setting.

As the owner of New England Invitations, D’Orsi created the couple’s custom stationery and paper goods, including invitations, toast from afar cards (sent to guests who were sent save-the-dates, but were now unable to attend due to guest count restrictions), menus, ceremony programs, signage and welcome bags, which came complete with personalized tags and the weekend’s event itinerary.
